Sea Level album cover

Dan Capaldi is a true musician. Known locally for his skills as a drummer and percussionist, most recently for The Cambiata, he has shifted gears to focus on voice and guitar as the front man for his latest project, Sea Level. The band’s debut EP, “Anjuli”, was produced, composed, and performed by Capaldi with help from engineer Noah Cole. The recordings were rounded out with some of Portland’s finest string and horn players. Sea Level was put together within the last few months and showcases Johnny Venom on bass, Justin Wiley on keys and Chris Sweet on drums.

Growing up in the Portland/Falmouth area, Capaldi began his music career performing in concert bands, theater pit orchestras, and grade school ensembles. High School brought a greater awareness of the Portland Music Scene and Capaldi started making his name as a key player with local musicians. He spent time playing and touring with various bands across a wide range of genres including ska, hard rock, and jazz. In 2005, he traded Portland for Boston to study at Berklee College of Music. It was there that he first discovered his passion for film composition, something that would further hone his musical personality. Unsurprisingly, he now lists Danny Elfman as one of his primary influences.

After two years, he found himself missing the Portland scene. He came back with an added focus on composition for both indie films and commercial projects, adding clients like Zildjian, Hannaford, Tony Hawk, and The Boston Celtics to his resume, in addition to creating music and sound design for a series featured on The Cartoon Network. He continued to play, compose and tour with bands like The Cambiata and Sparks the Rescue. These days, he is a drummer for local favorites, Holy Boys Danger Club and The Kenya Hall Band, in addition to his solo adventures.
